About

A reading room, honestly lit

Readeroom exists because the speed-reading category earned its reputation — and reading deserves better.

The premise

For decades this category has sold inflated numbers: courses promising 10x speed, apps that measure how fast you can flick pages and call it reading. The result is a graveyard of abandoned trials and a skill people gave up on. We started from the opposite end: measure honestly first, even when the honest number is smaller — then train the real, evidence-supported gap between how you read and how you could.

Honesty as architecture, not copy

“Honest” isn’t our adjective — it’s our design constraint. Comprehension is graded server-side so it can’t be faked. Gates are passed by ability on two separate days, never by payment. A dishonest read gets a kind refusal instead of a fake score. The Coach stays silent unless it has something true to say. And every claim on these pages describes the product as it works today.

Why we can charge less

Readeroom runs on hardware we own, not rented clouds — our marginal cost per reader is close to zero, and our engineering is built deterministic-first so it stays that way. That’s not a technical footnote: it’s what lets the free tier stay genuinely free and the paid tiers cost less than a coffee, without dark patterns making up the difference.

Where it’s going

A deeper library for the books you own, listening that syncs with your reading, family profiles with real child-safety design, and a coach that knows your reading the way a good teacher does. Every step ships the same way this page did: built, measured, and described truthfully.

Three minutes. One honest number.

The best introduction to Readeroom is measuring how you read today.
